The highly anticipated forum is scheduled to take at place 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 24th at the historic Boys and Girls High School, 1700 Fulton Street near Utica Avenue in Brooklyn. The season premier comes on the heels of a year of multiple cases of reggae and dancehall artists facing criminal charges, and the forum will address this in the framework of “The Buju Banter: Should communities defend or denounce accused artists before evidence and verdict are known?”

Mystic Bowie Statement on Reggae Music and Drugs

The Maroon Tribe, from the hills of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, have a core set of values; be respectful and earn respect, make love not war, and the body is a “temple” that should not be polluted with impurities. The phrase “It takes the village to raise a child” is a way of life for these mountain people and they believe in educating the children in their values in the hopes that they are passed on through the generations. As a member of the Maroon Tribe, I live by the standards and teachings of my elders. I will not put anything in my body which it doesn’t need to survive; I don’t use drugs, drink alcohol, or smoke. As a father myself, it makes me proud when my children say to their friends “My dad doesn’t smoke, drink alcohol or do drugs”. The song “(Music is my) Drug of Choice”, was written for the children, to tell them that music can give a natural high without drugs or alcohol.

Rastafarians, with their ties to the Maroons, have similar values; love and be loved, promote peace, live peacefully, and hate should never be an option. Reggae music was originally founded by Rastafarians as a way of expression and sending out their message of love and peace. The culture that surrounds Reggae music expands on these values to teach happiness, oneness, and provide a way to bring people together, and get positive messages out while keeping people dancing. As a Rasta, a reggae musician and a Maroon, I have the moral responsibility to lead our children and followers to a positive path. “Ras” means King. A King is a leader and a role model. So if you claim to be a Rasta, you should be prepared to teach positively and take responsibility for your actions which influence the people we lead.

Our elders have set a high standard to live life. As the current adult generation, we take on the obligation to pass on our values through being good role models for the next generation. Unfortunately, some of these “leaders” or “role models” get arrested for drugs or substance abuse. However, we must not condemn them, and see their mistakes as a positive lesson. We must take away from their situation the knowledge that none of us is above the law, and we hope they learn from their mistakes. They are only human and as we all know, none of us is perfect. For example, Buju Banton was recently arrested on cocaine charges. Let’s not jump to conclusions; remember innocent until proven guilty. I personally hope he is innocent, because if he is proven guilty his actions would go against all the teachings of Rastafarianism, the culture of Reggae music, and put a negative shroud on the pride of Jamaica and Rasta’s Reggae Music.

Mystic Bowie and Crew Brings Fun and Frolic to O'Neill's Fat Tuesday

WHO DAT Nation and an Irie Vibration are coming to O'Neill's. At the age of three his family relocate to Spanish town, St.Catherine. Isiah was surrounded by music 24-7. His great Aunt, Miss Lore was a political vocalist. Every household had a sound system with music to sing. His family's reaction brought him to realize that he had talent. Isiah started to sing at school, Tivoli Garden High School in Kingston when they had concerts or functions.

Surrounding communities and his friends, spread the word fast of his talent. The Ministry of Health held a concert for the sick in Spanish town. Isiah was one of the first talents on the line up.

He became the most recognized new Artist in Spanish town as promoters and night club owners had him performing on weekends. He performed with fellow artists such as Anthony Redrose, Wicka man, Papa San, Major worries, Dirts man, just to name a few. Isiah relocate to Central Village, St. Catherine where his career took off like a rocket. He quickly became the top vocalist in dancehall and landed the job as sound vocalist on a sound from New Kingston that substituted for U Roy's Stereo Gav whenever it was on tour or needed maintenance. He also sang for the area number 1 sound called Runner Tone. He did one of his tours around the islands. Isiah was singing on a sound called Count Bassi Intl in Old Harbor where he met King Tubby and studio engineer, "Professor" who was very impressed with his performance, Professor told Isiah to meet him at the studio in Water House, Kingston, Jamaica. He became a member of the Fire House Crew.

At king Tubby's Studio, Isiah recorded dub plate specials for sound systems worldwide; sounds like Coxon, Saxon, Arrows, Stereo malt, Wadat, Stereo Gav, Unity, just to name a few. KING TUBBY "the King" as he was called, was and still the most respected Producer in Jamaica. Most top Reggae Artists recorded for him, and Isiah got the chance to meet and work with him. Reggae magazines and radio personalities from around the world came to Water House to interview King. The crew and Isiah took advantage of it and Isiah's dreams came true when he met the artists who inspired him in the business, artists like Black Uhuru, Ini kamozi, Burning Spear, Barrington Levy, The Wailers, Edi Fitzroy and Dennis Brown. You can hear all these artists in Isiah singing styles.

Isiah got his first show over seas in New York with Johnny Osborne, LT Stitchi and Little John, all produced by Clinton Lynsy, He got more shows, traveled back and forth from America to England doing shows. While performing in the U.S, he ran into "PROFESSOR" his first help in the biz, so both him, Philip Smart from H.C and F co-produced "BIG IN A BED" that went #2 on the New York charts and the British Reggae charts. Up to this point, Isiah's name was Lilly Melody. This name he got from living at Central Village as he was always singing by the river early mornings with lots of lily flowers around.

He went on to do a few more singles and shows for some independent producers as Lilly Melody. Isiah was getting older and starting to feel he had to help the human race from self destruction so he took a break from writing and recording to re-educate him self mentally to go on this mission. He got re-energized by Luciano, Sizzla and Garnett Silk, then felt he had to work on his art and step it up a notch. During one of his daily meditations, Jah Rastafar-I came to him in a vision and told him why he was here, his mission and his name should be symbolic of his work, ISIAH MENTOR.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

He recorded singles for music "Witty" Master Label like Zion Train. "Everything" and "Stronger" was recorded for the Golden Cartel Label Road Block, Black Pyramid prod-Only Jah, Agrian from Black Scorpio, "What have you Done", Reggae Run de Place", A style records" Far from home", this song was on the New York top 30 charts for 6 weeks.

Isiah started his own record label, Village Roots Records and released one of the tuffest compilation cd on the market right now, "Reggae Startime vol.1", with Tanya Stephens, Anthony B, Turbulance, Chuck Fender, Vybz Kartel, George Nooks and Isiah mentor, a few on the 21 track cd, This cd got very good reviews worldwide .

ISIAH'S NUMBER ONE HIT

In 2006, Isiah released one of his strongest tunes as of yet entitled ,"Fight Fight Fight", which was released as a 7" single on In The Streetz Records. The tune was written and produced by Isiah Mentor on his label, Village Roots Records along with a video that is being played all around the world. "Fight Fight Fight" is on some charts in Germany, Italy, and France to name a few and is #1 in New Mexico U.S.A. He also voiced and produced another heavy Roots Anthem, called "Rasta Government" which has gotten some serious credentials/feedback amongst the Jamaican roots-scene, and showed up on the charts in Italy during its first pre-release week.

isiahmentor.net

Facebook

WPRP Website

Mystic Bowie's Bob Marley Birthday Bash was an amazing event

According to reports from WPKN 89.5 FM: The Mystic Bowie Bob Marley Birthday Bash was an amazing reggae event pulled off with help of WPKN'ers iMessiah and Ebong Udoma and Route 22 in Stamford, CT.

A full house pulsated to the rhythms of reggae with a stellar line-up of national and international talent. The hot, sexy, soulful songstress, Keri Paige is such an artiste and is here to add a new flavour to the reggae music scene.

Keri’s gift of melody was realized at age eleven when she sang at school and throughout the community of Savanna-La-Mar in Westmoreland, Jamaica, where she was born. She developed a passion for music and nurtured her talent as a vocalist and songwriter.

Keri began her professional career as a dominant presence on the Jamaican North Coast hotel circuit, which later led to the release of her first song entitled, “Shine;” released by Dynamic Sounds in 1996 and a second single, “My Way” on the Boot Camp Label in 1999.

Her tremendous talent, demonstrated by her inspired lyrics and good vocal range and versatility, plus the texture and quality of her voice, made her a producer’s dream. With the solid intention of stamping her true authority in the music fraternity, Keri continued working assiduously, stirring a tremendous amount of interest and attention.

In July 2000, Barry O’Hare of World A Muzik Productions, produced a track with Keri called “Mr. DJ.” The track did extremely well on the airwaves and this led to Air Jamaica Airlines immediately including the song in their in-flight program. In August of that same year, she was awarded Artiste of the Month for Juice Magazine. In July 2002, Byron Murray and Street Music went in hot pursuit of Keri Paige, apparently mesmerized by her melodic voice.

They produced a song entitled “I Want A Carpenter” and again in 2003 they produced the hit song “New Day.” This also led to collaboration with reggae superstar, Sizzla, with a track called “Oops.” As Keri’s popularity grew, she went on to record “I Love You Baby” on the Big Yard Label in 2006 and “He Loves Me, He Loves Me not,” featuring Lethal on the Top Secret Label.

Keri has performed on Teensplash, Unity Splash, Rise to the Occasion and Super Reggae Jam, where she shared the state with reggae/dancehall greats such as Beres Hammond, Richie Stephens, Beenie Man, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Cecile and Lady Saw, to name a few. Her face can also be seen on several corporate advertisements and commercials. She has just completed her new single and video, “Hey Sexy,” on the Fire Mix Label and is poised to take her career up another level on the international scene. She is also concentrating on writing songs for her debut album.

Keri Paige represents a new sound and quality in dancehall/reggae, one which is energetic and exciting and is guaranteed to keep music lovers all over the world tapping their feet to a new beat!

........................

Being the hot, sexy, glamorous and fashionable person she is Keri took time off her musical career in 2009, to concentrate on setting up her women fashion business, known as K.P. Fashions in Savanna-la-Mar, Western Jamaica. While on her break the music in her would not allow her to go the whole year without performing for her fans. She made a few appearances at events held in Western Jamaica, including the Jamaica’s biggest food show; The Westmoreland Curry Festival, where she received and outstanding response from the crowd.

2010 will see the return of Keri Paige in dancehall/reggae arena, bigger, better and hotter, doing live performances, recording new songs and videos for her national and international audience.

Video for Keri's, "Hey Sexy".

Mystic Bowie will celebrate his new album launch at FTC Stage one on Dec 20

Internationally acclaimed World Music/Reggae Artist, MYSTIC BOWIE will perform on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at FTC’s Stage One to celebrate the release of his new CD, “NEVAH KISS & TELL”.

Mystic Bowie, known to many as a featured performer/frontman with Tom Tom Club, is a standout artist whose energetic Reggae-based performances are infused with elements of Jamaican/Caribbean rhythms, Cajun funk & zydeco, rock, and R&B.

Mystic Bowie has shared the stage with a veritable “Who’s Who” of the entertainment industry and always performs to enthusiastic audiences and rave reviews. Between the ages of 9 and 14, Mystic made three (3) recordings for Jack Ruby Records ("Back to Jamaica, "Happy Hut," "Whiny Whiny").

He was 13 when he first left the island to perform abroad and 14 when he left his tribal home and family, moving on his own to Negril. Then as now, he continued to obey the core tribal rules and values — no alcohol, no drugs, no impurities polluting the body. At the age of 17, Mystic moved to Birmingham, England to study at the University of Birmingham. Upon completion, Mystic moved to the United States.

Mystic Bowie has returned to Jamaica on a regular basis to attend to his humanitarian projects as well as to perform in concerts on the North Coast. This year he will be returning Jamaica to launch his latest album “Nevah Kiss & Tell”, on November 10, 2009, at the Negril Escape Resort and Spa in Westmoreland.

“Nevah Kiss & Tell” is an inspiration which came from his many tours and experiences around the world in the last five years. Some of the songs are done in collaboration with special guest artistes, such as “Professor Nuts” (Jamaica), “Jen Durkin” (USA), “Christine Tambakis” (USA) and “Jah Screw Driver” (Jamaica)
The 4 singles “Nevah Kiss & Tell”; “Nevah Run Away”; “Music Is My Drug of Choice” and “Conga Line” were chosen by fans at shows where he performed.

The album features 10 other songs which will be released for digital downloads only, with many other special guests. Some of these guests featured on the album are working with Mystic in an effort to showcase their talents. Mystic will be producing some of their songs on his own Funky Ska Music label.

Recently Mystic has been appearing on stages all over including the USA and British Columbia Canada. All his tours were successful, especially in British Columbia Canada. Due to his success, organizers of the “Okanagan Film festival” approached Mystic to make a short film about him to enter into the Okanagan Film fest.

Immediately after the Launch in Jamaica he will be traveling British Columbia Canada to shoot the film on December 1, 09.

See more about Mystic Bowie at www.mysticbowie.com

Jeremey JT Thompson Biography

Jeremey 'JT' Thompson was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica.
